Aston Villa supporters have been making all the noise in recent times after seeing their side emerge victorious from the Second City derby on Sunday.
Dean Smith’s men went into their meeting with bitter rivals Birmingham City off the back of beating Derby County 3-0 in their preceding Championship encounter, and thus full of confidence ahead of the visit of Garry Monk’s side. And it is Villans fans who have the bragging rights in the city after seeing their team sweep aside the Blues 4-2 at Villa Park, with goals from Jonathan Kodjia, Jack Grealish, Tammy Abraham, and Alan Hutton inspiring the hosts to all three points.
Thus, there have been many delighted Villa fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have taken to Twitter recently to laud praise on striker Abraham, with several calling for the club to land the Englishman on a permanent deal.
And those Villa supporters calling for such deal are absolutely spot on to do so, as landing the £9 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) would represent a massive coup from manager Smith.
Ultimately, the Villans were seen to have pulled off quite the masterstroke in the summer in landing the 21-year-old on a loan deal from Chelsea, what with the striker spending last term on loan at Premier League side Swansea City.
And with five goals for the Swans, who eventually lost their top-flight status, it looked like Abraham would again get a top tier move, only for former boss Steve Bruce to lure him to Villa Park to aid in their promotion bid.
And aid in that bid he certainly is given the 21-year-old, capped twice by England at senior level in the last 12 months or so, has netted six goals in just 12 Championship appearances for the Villans, five goals of which helping the club to positive results.
Thus, Villa have themselves a gem who looks set to play a vital part in what success they have under Smith this term – why wouldn’t they seek to land him on a permanent deal?
After all, as has often been the case with youngsters at Chelsea in recent times, Abraham has struggled to get a look-in at Stamford Bridge, but those difficulties are particularly pertinent at present given Alvaro Morata hasn’t exactly set the world alight in West London, while they haven’t yet reaped the rewards from Olivier Giroud’s arrival at the start of the year.
Thus, what future he has at Chelsea very much remains to be seen, but were he to lead Villa to promotion this term, or indeed another challenge which could pave the way for promotion next time round, the opportunity may arise for a permanent deal – an opportunity Smith must take.
As such, Villa fans lauding the 21-year-old and calling for their side to sign him permanently are spot on to do so, in what would represent a huge coup from the club’s hierarchy.
Villa fans… what do you think? Let us know!
