Manchester United will have the perfect opportunity to continue their resurgence when they host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday.
Despite losing to rivals Manchester City in the Manchester Derby just before the international break, United went on a four-match unbeaten streak in the league to get their campaign back on track after a horrible start to the season.
Roy Hodgson’s men, on the other hand, have gone seven matches without a win in all competitions, which included a 1-0 defeat to Championship side Middlesbrough in the League Cup at the end of October.
And a trip to Old Trafford certainly doesn’t make it any easier for the Eagles who are sitting just outside of a relegation spot on the Premier League, thanks to a better goal difference.
The struggling Palace should, therefore, be an easy target for José Mourinho’s men, who could move into sixth position with a win, should Watford and Bournemouth fail to pick up three points in their respective matches against Liverpool and Arsenal.
The Red Devils’ previous league match at home was against Everton, which they managed to win despite being under heaps of pressure. But that result was followed up by encouraging performances at Juventus in the Champions League and at Bournemouth where United came from a goal down in both matches to win 2-1.
The derby loss to City should however not dampen the team’s confidence and courage they showed to turn their season around somewhat after a patchy spell in September that saw them lose to Derby County and West Ham United.
Mourinho will have the opportunity to experiment with his attack again as he looks to find the perfect combination up-front that could benefit Anthony Martial, who has been in tremendous form on the left-wing lately. The manager has chopped and changed a bit in recent matches due to the injury absence of Romelu Lukaku with either Alexis Sanchez or Marcus Rashford being used as centre-forwards with Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard rotating on the right-flank.
With those names, United should have more than enough firepower to get the job done over Palace and could the game be a great confidence booster before their Champions League clash with Young Boys on Tuesday.
