According to NUFC Blog, Newcastle manager Rafa Benítez has said that he would be interested in signing West Brom loanee Salomón Rondón if he continues to score goals.
The Venezuelan striker bagged two goals in The Magpies’ victory over Bournemouth over the weekend, and looks to be coming into decent form after a poor start to the season that was marred by injury and bad performances.
While this may seem like troubling news to The Baggies, it is actually not as bad as it first appears. In all likelihood, if Rondón were to stay at St James’ Park, Dwight Gayle would very likely stay at The Hawthorns. Gayle has been a revelation this season, scoring nine goals in 14 games in an exceptional West Brom attack. He has been a key figure in a team that are leading the goalscoring charts by eight goals.
Gayle has quickly become a favourite of both the fans and manager Darren Moore, and his absence was certainly felt during this past few games, where West Brom found themselves in a rut. However, many will hope that his return will see an upturn in results, as it did at the weekend against Leeds.
Therefore, Gayle may actually be an improvement to Rondón at West Brom, shown by his prolific season so far. However, the problem is if West Brom get promoted; as the Venezuelan is proven to be more successful in the top division than Gayle. However, at this moment in time, Gayle looks very well suited to where he is, and The Baggies should be glad of that.
