According to reports in Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera (via SportWitness), Leeds United are interested in a stunning move for Gianluigi Buffon.
The Italian stopper is available on a free transfer after his PSG contract came to an end, and the Whites are hoping to bring him to Elland Road.
Need a keeper
Leeds need a goalkeeper this summer. There have been reports that Kiko Casilla is set to leave the club, and Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s recent comments suggest that he isn’t happy being second choice.
United have recently been linked with Bournemouth youngster Mark Travers, but now it seems that they want a more accomplished stopper.
The Yorkshire outfit would be getting an incredible talent between the sticks if they signed the World Cup winner, but they would be getting so much more than that.
More than a keeper
The Elland Road faithful have been asking on Twitter who should be the captain next season, with plenty of fans wanting to see Liam Cooper replaced as skipper, but many couldn’t agree on who should wear the armband next season.
If Buffon joined the club, then the answer to the captain conundrum would be simple.
The 41-year-old has proven his incredible leadership skills as he captained Juventus and Italy for many years.

Not only would Marcelo Bielsa’s side be gaining one of the best goalkeepers the world has seen in recent history, but they would be acquiring one of the most widely respected and decorated footballers of the past 20 years.
When United’s youngsters look towards their captain for some inspiration, they currently look at a man who has only ever won the Football League trophy, but if Buffon replaced Cooper as skipper they would be able to draw from his experience of winning a World Cup, 10 league titles and five domestic cups.
The presence of such a successful footballing icon in the Leeds squad may provide the team with the extra boost they sometimes lacked last season to drive them forward to success.
