Many associated with Newcastle United may have mixed feelings this morning following Sunday’s result against Southampton in the Premier League.Rafael Benitez’s men had the lead twice, but were eventually pulled back to a 2-2 draw at St Mary’s.Isaac Hayden and Ayoze Perez got on the scoresheet for the visitors, while Manolo Gabbiadini netted twice – once from the penalty spot – to ensure that the point was shared.Despite the fact that Newcastle held the lead, Alan Shearer, who is regarded as a club legend at St James’ Park, believes that the team should be pleased with a draw away from home.Unlike the draw between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield, the contest between Newcastle and Southampton was entertaining.Shearer also drew on the North-East outfit’s dismal record against the Saints, with the team not picking up a win since the 2012-13 season.
Newcastle are currently in the top half of the table, sitting ninth.
