Mauricio Pochettino has revealed his that it is his dream to manage the Argentina national side one day.
What’s the word?
The international break is a time when fans sit with bated breath, praying to whatever entity they believe in that their club’s players do not get injured.
We are forced to spend more time with our families, go outside at 3pm on a Saturday and find another way to occupy that hour after the news when Match Of The Day is usually on.
Apparently though, it is also a time when we are told that our manager’s dream job lies elsewhere.
Pochettino has said as much, via Sport Witness: “Managing the national team comes into my dreams to be fulfilled and I have a great mental strength to fulfil my dreams in reality.”
Don’t panic
To some Tottenham fans, the news that the lovable Argentine doesn’t want to spend every waking moment of the rest of his life in north London may be a bit of a depressing realisation.
Since his arrival in 2014, Pochettino has taken the Lilywhites from being the least respected member of the ‘big six’ inner circle to an almost certainty for the top-four, earning Champions League qualification in each of the last four seasons.
The club was 90 minutes away from winning the most prestigious award in club football, and while the likes of Daniel Levy deserve some credit too, there’s no question who is really to thank for the club’s incredible rise.
Yet, we have to face reality, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the 47 year-old hopes to lead his nation one day.
Not only did he play 22 times for his country, Argentina’s management in recent years has been notoriously bad, from the mismanagement of Lionel Messi to bizarre team selections and perhaps worst of all Jorge Sampaoli’s shocking outfits.
Pochettino seems the perfect man to revolutionise them just as he has done with Spurs, and with that said, surely no one could forbid him from taking the job he “dreams” of one day.
