[ad_pod ]Reported Southampton target Adam Lallana has confirmed to the Chief Football Writer of the Press Association Simon Peach that he intends to stay at Liverpool this summer.
What’s the word, then?
The 31-year-old told the journalist that there was no question about whether he would still be at Anfield by the start of next season and that he couldn’t be happier at the club, referencing the recent UEFA Champions League win and that he knows what he has to offer the Reds.
Lallana joined from the Saints in the summer of 2014 but only has the one year left on his current contract, leading to mass speculation he might be leaving this summer and heading back to the south coast.
However, plagued by injuries, the 34-time England international is finding his role more and more limited to cameo appearances under Jurgen Klopp and made just 16 in all competitions in 2018/2019.
Southampton have dodged a huge bullet
Southampton have dodged a huge bullet in Lallana deciding that he won’t be relocating in the summer and therefore, not returning to the team he spent seven years at between 2007 and 2014.
One would be foolish to think that his big return would be a cheap one for the Saints, although if they wait until next summer they could get him for free.
Lallana has been used to Liverpool wages for five years now and if they wanted him, the St. Mary’s side would have had to have offered him something similar, doing them considerable financial damage.

The move would have also made very little sense footballing wise, if you look at how many central midfielders Hasenhuttl possesses in his current squad. Plus, why would they need Lallana when they’ve got James Ward-Prowse?
Lallana is not getting any younger and injuries are increasingly taking their toll – he wouldn’t be able to stay fit enough to play anything like the role the Southampton hierarchy would want him to. Saints fans should be very pleased about the midfielder’s desire to stay put.
